The kids move in!

Today was a big day for the preschool, after more than two decades of providing childcare in the local village halls, the children had their first day in our purpose built building!  They quickly settled themselves in and are already making good use of the new facilities, including their new outdoor play area.

Easter Celebrations and the Completion of New Pre-school

Over 100 visitors enjoyed a visit by the Easter bunny to the Nassington pre-school Easter Extravaganza.  The event also marked the completion of the brand new, purpose built £173,000 pre-school building and raised more than £400 for pre-school funds.

Children, parents and staff from Nassington pre-school, along with visitors from the village and further afield, enjoyed an Easter egg hunt led by the Easter bunny, Easter card making and egg decorating, along with a cake stall, bouncy castle, merry-go-round and barbeque.

“This was a well attended, happy community event which also celebrated the completion of our exciting new building,” said pre-school chair Rachel Taylor. “Many thanks to parents, staff, local community and the pre-school committee whose hard work and support made the event - and the new building itself - happen.”

Nassington pre-school children will begin the term in their new premises from April 26. Up until now they have operated out of Nassington and Yarwell village halls, where staff set up and pack away all pre-school equipment, artwork and toys every day. The £173,000 building will provide a permanent home for the Early Years care and education of up to 25 local children aged from two to school age during any one session.

Pre-school supervisor Lisa John said: “We are delighted with our new building which will allow our children to flourish, learn and grow in a happy, caring and dedicated environment.”

The new low energy building, which includes eco-friendly innovations such as underfloor heating and an air source heat pump, was as funded by a £150,000 grant from Northamptonshire County Council plus local business sponsorship and some energetic local fundraising.

Nassington pre-school would in particular like to thank the local community for their support in the fund raising efforts for the new building. Our Thai Takeaway evening raised £844, the children’s sponsored find, nearly £400 and the tile painting £280. Look out for the tiles which have been used to decorate the walls in the new building.

The new build will also boast a soft outdoor play area funded by a £1400 Leisure Grant from East Northamptonshire Council.  It is hoped that funding for photo-voltaic cells and rain harvesting equipment can also be secured.

Mums, dads and Committee members rallied together this weekend to decorate inside the building which is now water tight.
Many thanks to Charlotte Lemmon for organising the volunteers and to David Smallridge who arranged for us to hire a spray painting contraption to get the job done in extra quick time!  There were also lots of others who taped, untaped and made cups of tea amongst other things!
Many Thanks go to everyone involved.

24th January 2011 - Pre-school makes a splash!
Some of our pre-schoolers became famous today after a story about our new build appeared in the Peterborough Evening Telegraph.
The youngsters from the rising fives group gathered at the new building on for a photocall with local and regional journalists, at an event that was designed to start building some local interest in our exciting project.
In addition to the ET, it is expected that stories will appear in the Nassington and Yarwell newsletters, Nene Valley Living, The Villager newspaper and the council's newspaper, Nene Valley News.
The £175,000 building, which we hope to be able to move into on April 26, will provide a permanent home for the preschool after 20 years of operating successfully out of Nassington and Yarwell village halls.
The new building will mean that staff no longer have to set up and pack away each session and that children's artwork can be permanently displayed on the walls.
The new low energy building will be able to accommodate up to 25 of our tots during any one session. We will always ensure that our excellent staff to children ratios are maintained.
The new low energy building, which will include such eco-friendly innovations as underfloor heating and an airsource heat pump, was funded by a £150,000 grant from East Northants county council plus donations from local businesses and some energetic fundraising on the part of the pre-school committee. Stamford Homes provided £600 which will fund a disabled parking space at the building.
Pre-school vice chair Hilary Haggis, said: "The new building will take the pre-school into a new and exciting era, allowing us to increase the number of children we care for as well as offering longer hours of care."

10th January 2011
After a frustrating hiatus caused by the snow, progress is now rapid on our new build. Located beside the cricket pavilion we hope to be able to move into our spanking new £xxx premises by Easter, if not before. The windows are in, the plastering’s done and the final fixtures and fittings are going on. Soon, all that will remain will be the decorating – and that’s where we hope you’ll come in! If you can spare some time to help us, and you’re a dab hand with the paintbrush, please give committee member Charlotte Lemmon a bell on 01780 783705 and volunteer your time. Keep an eye on our website for more news about the great move.

The building is now well on it's way up.  A brief visit yesterday saw the lintels for windows and doors going in.  Things are really taking shape already!

16th September 2010
The builders are making swift progress and the floor support is now in.  We have been a completion date of the week before Christmas so we hope to be in early next year.
There continuews to be a huge amount of work going on in the background for this development.  We are still trying to secure additional funding to make the best of this opportunity.  For example, we hope to secure a grant for Eco Friendly Heating.  We also need to raise a little more money to cover the slight increase in costs so look out for our fundraising events in the coming weeks and months!

If you have time available to help with the project please get in touch via our contact page.

Nassington Preschool has been running from the village halls at Nassington & Yarwell since 1988. Recently we have bid for a grant which will allow us to create a purpose built facility.  This will be sited on land near the cricket pavillion on Nassington playing Field.
